Sylvania Native Jeffrey Czerniakowski Earns All-OAC Accolades

2014 Apr 28

Jeffrey Czerniakowski, a Sylvania native and member of the Capital University men's golf team, was selected All-Ohio Athletic Conference by virtue of his top 10 finish at the OAC Championship over the weekend.

Capital shot its lowest round of the weekend Sunday and finished just 10 strokes short of first place at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio.

The Crusaders finished in third place in the three-day, 72-hole tournament with a team score of 1,239 (309-312-311-307). Baldwin Wallace defeated Otterbein by one stroke to win the title and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Three Capital student-athletes earned All-OAC accolades by virtue of top 10 finishes in the eight-team, 40-player championship.

Freshman Jeff Czerniakowski (Sylvania Northview High School) surged from 16th place at the end of the day Saturday to a tie for fifth place by the conclusion of play Sunday. He fired a 1-under 71 in the final round, the lowest score of any player, to post a 306 (77-80-78-71) for the championship.

Senior Clay Rice (Hilliard Davidson High School) wrapped up his standout career with his second all-conference honor and a seventh-place finish. He carded a 307 (75-75-76-81).

Sophomore Daniel Shafer (Hilliard Davidson High School) was named All-OAC for the second straight year with a 309 (80-73-80-76), good for 10th place.
