Newark Native Alyssa Patznick Named OAC Player of the Week

2014 Apr 1

Alyssa Patznick, a Nursing major and student-athlete at Capital University, was one of three players named Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week for their performances last week.

Freshman midfielder Michael Trefethern (Cardinal Mooney High School) of the Capital men's lacrosse team received OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors following a large role that he played in the Crusaders' two road victories this past week. Trefethern tallied 15 ground balls, one caused turnover, two goals and one assist in two Capital wins this past week over Hiram (8-3) last Tuesday and Franciscan (20-8) this past Saturday. He also won 36-of-41 faceoffs over that span.

Freshman goalie Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls High School) of the Crusaders' women's lacrosse team also earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week, following back-to-back road victories over Waynesburg (12-6) last Friday and Franciscan (17-2) this past Saturday. In the two victories, Wilson allowed just eight goals on 24 shots, while saving a combined 16 shots, improving to 6-1 in goal on the season. In addition, Wilson is currently ranked first in the NCAA Division III in save percentage (.667).

Junior pitcher Alyssa Patznick (Lakewood High School) of the Capital softball team received OAC Pitcher of the Week honors after picking up the victory in each of the two games of a double header last Thursday at home against Bethany (W.Va.). Patznick tossed a four-hit shutout in a lopsided 11-0 win over Bethany in game one, followed by a 6-5 victory in game two after entering the contest in three innings of relief work.
