Grove City Native Brooklyn Staten Earns All-Region Selection

2014 May 12

Brooklyn Staten, a Grove City, OH, native and sophomore on the Capital University softball team, was named second team All-Central Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Saturday as the organization released its 2014 NCAA Division III All-Region teams.

Staten, a second baseman from Grove City, Ohio, was selected second team All-Ohio Athletic Conference last week, the second such honor of her career. The 2013 OAC Rookie of the Year joined six others from the conference on the region's top two teams.

Staten started all 36 games she appeared in over the course of the season, batting .360 with 25 runs scored and nine stolen bases, each good for second on the team. She also led both the Crusaders and the league with 12 sacrifice hits to set up the middle of Capital's order for run-producing opportunities, and struck out just four times during the season, the lowest number of any of the team's regular starters.

In OAC games only, Staten led the team with a .432 batting average and stole three bases.

The Crusaders finished 21-19 overall in 2014 to post the program's 16th consecutive season at 20 wins or more.
