Columbus Native Caitlin Prange Earns All-OAC Accolades

2014 Apr 28

Caitlin Prange, a Columbus native and senior member of the Capital University track and field program, garnered all-conference honors at the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.

Senior sprinter Caitlin Prange (Bishop Watterson High School) led the women with a pair of All-OAC performances. Prange placed third in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in times of 12.38 and 25.63, respectively. She ends her career as an 11-time all-conference honoree and will continue to push for a berth in the NCAA Outdoor Championships next month at Ohio Wesleyan.

Senior Cory Smith (Colonel Crawford High School) led the men with an All-OAC finish in the javelin throw. Smith recorded a personal best with a toss of 172-11, good for third overall in the event. Smith also competed in two other events, placing 12th in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.14 and tied for 14th in the pole vault with a mark of 13-01.50.

The women's and men's teams placed eighth and 10th, respectively. The women finished with 38 points, just two shy of seventh-place Marietta, while the men totaled 10 points, nine shy of ninth-place Heidelberg.

Prange and Smith will each graduate this Saturday. Both are criminology and sociology majors.

Several Crusaders are set to compete Friday at the Ohio University Open. Events are set to begin at 2 p.m. in Athens.
