2014 Jan 13

Bob Weisgarber, a senior on the Capital University men's soccer team and graduate of St. Francis DeSales, has been selected first team Division III Academic All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA), the organization announced Friday, Jan. 10.

Weisgarber, the Crusaders' starting goalkeeper for the last four years, has maintained a cumulative 3.92 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He is majoring in biology and is pre-med.

A three-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Weisgarber became the program's first-ever National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-American in December. The Columbus, Ohio, native also enjoyed a standout 2013 campaign on the field, earning OAC Goalkeeper of the Year and first team All-OAC accolades.

Weisgarber, who was also a second team All-Great Lakes Region pick by the NSCAA, led the conference and ranked in the top 75 in the nation in save percentage (.820). He also finished among league leaders in saves (100), saves per match (5.26) and solo shutouts (6). Weisgarber tallied a goal from more than 60 yards out on Nov. 4, sending the Crusaders to the OAC Tournament semifinals and earning an appearance on Fox Sports 1's highlight show "Fox Sports Live".

Academic All-Ohio honorees must have started more than 50 percent of their team's games, must be of sophomore academic standing at their current institution, must carry at least a 3.20 GPA, must have participated in 50 percent of the team's games at the position on the nomination form and must have been a significant contributor to their team's success.
