Columbus Native Bob Weisgarber Named All-OAC

2013 Nov 19

Bob Weisgarber, a member of the Capital University men's soccer team and a native of Columbus, OH, was one of five Crusaders selected All-Ohio Athletic Conference, the league announced last week.

Senior Bob Weisgarber (Columbus, Ohio) earned OAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors, while also being selected to first team All-OAC. Weisgarber is just the second Crusaders goalkeeper in program history to receive the OAC Goalkeeper of the Year award, and the first for the program since 2007.

On the season, Weisgarber led the OAC in save percentage (.820), while placing in the top five in goals against (22), goals-against average (1.13), and saves (100).

Senior Nick Eley (Pickerington, Ohio) and junior R.G. Florey (Westerville, Ohio) also received All-OAC honors, being named to the second team after compiling stellar seasons en route to the Crusaders OAC Tournament semifinal appearance.

Eley received second team honors after leading the team in points (14), goals (6) and tying for the team lead in assists (2), following 18 starts in 20 appearances this season.

Florey appeared in all 20 games for the Crusaders this season, making 19 starts, compiling the second most points (7) and goals (3) on the team, while also recording one assist throughout.

Junior Austin Dent (Pataskala, Ohio) and freshman Jacob Pulliam (Westerville, Ohio) earned honorable mention All-OAC honors. Dent started in all 20 matches for Capital this season, while tallying two points on one goal. Pulliam also started in all 20 matches and registered the game-winning goal on a penalty kick against Baldwin Wallace on Oct. 26. He finished with four points (one goal, two assists) for the year.

Capital finished its 2013 campaign on Nov. 6 in a 2-1 double overtime loss at Ohio Northern in the OAC Tournament semifinals.

The team also improved its record from a season ago, finishing 9-6-4 overall and 5-4 in the OAC, en route to a fourth place finish in the OAC regular season standings.
