Canton Native Alexis Juergensen Selected All-OAC in Women's Lacrosse

2014 May 8

Alexis Juergensen, a Canton, OH, native and member of the Capital University women's lacrosse team, was one of five Crusaders selected to the 2014 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse team, the league announced Thursday, May 8.

Freshman goalie Maddie Wilson was named OAC Defensive Player of the Year. Wilson, a graduate of Chagrin Falls High School, was also selected first team All-OAC. She was joined on the first team by freshman midfielder Korri Titus (Pickerington North) and freshman defender Alexis Juergensen (Canton Jackson). Sophomore Kim Hoerauf (Thomas Worthington) and freshman Shannon Walton (Magnificat) were tabbed honorable mention.

The all-conference quintet helped the Crusaders finish 10-5 overall and reach the OAC Tournament semifinals in the program's inaugural varsity season. Capital finished fourth in the league and boasted a 6-1 record playing at Bernlohr Stadium, and is currently fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (14.53) and 10th in scoring defense (7.13 goals per game).

Wilson started all 15 games for Capital and ranks among conference and national leaders in key statistical categories. She leads the league and ranks second in NCAA Division III in save percentage (.584) and is also the OAC's leader with 150 saves. Wilson is third in the conference and 10th in the country with a 7.23 goals against average.

An OAC Defensive Player of the Week honoree on March 10, Wilson also finished second on the team in ground balls (35) and third on caused turnovers (25). She recorded a season-high 17 saves and had an assist in the team's 11-8 victory over Calvin (Mich.) on March 8 and registered eight games of 10 or more saves.

Titus led the Crusaders and finished in the top five in the conference in goals (57) and points (72) while contributing a team-best 15 assists. She also added 31 ground balls, 30 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers while taking a league-high 126 shots.

Titus recorded a season-high eight goals on two different occasions, including a career- and program-best 13-point effort in Capital's 25-5 victory over Wilmington on April 16, the team's first-ever conference win. She was named OAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 10 after leading the Crusaders with five goals in the team's triumph over Calvin.

Juergensen was a staple of Capital's strong defense, starting 14 of 15 games and tallying 24 ground balls, 10 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers for the year. She added four goals and one assist, all of which came in Crusader victories.

Walton, a two-time OAC Defensive Player of the Week, was a force on both ends of the field. She led the team in ground balls (54) and draw controls (34) and paced Capital and ranked fourth in the league with 34 caused turnovers. Walton also finished among the top three on the team in goals (36), assists (11) and points (47).

Hoerauf, the team's primary face-off specialist, was tied for second on the team in goals (36) and third in points (39). She totaled 31 ground balls, 31 draw controls and 32 caused turnovers, ranking among the top three on the team in each category.

Mount Union's Katherine Doraty was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Otterbein's Stephani Schmidt earned Coach of the Year honors.
