2014 Mar 3

Dale Booher, an Atwater native and member of the Capital University men's tennis team, has been selected Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, March 3.

Booher, a freshman, won all three of his singles matches and two of his three doubles contests last week, when the Crusaders competed in three dual matches as part of their spring break trip to Puerto Rico.

Playing at No. 3 singles, Booher won all three of his matches last week in three sets. He knocked off Kevin Ramos of Division II Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 on Feb. 23, then defeated Joseph Montanez of Puerto Rico-Humacao 6-7, 6-0, 1-0 on Tuesday. He finished the week Thursday with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Augustana (Ill.)'s Grant Wick.

In doubles, Booher teamed with sophomore Luke Buchanan at the top singles position for a pair of wins. The duo defeated Montanez and Christian Ortega of Puerto Rico-Humacao, 8-5, on Tuesday and Lawrence Palmer and Andy Wall of Augustana, 8-4, on Thursday.

Booher is now 5-2 in singles play and 4-3 in doubles, including a 4-2 mark playing with Buchanan at the No. 1 spot, during the 2013-14 season.

Capital continues play this Friday against Earlham (Ind.) at the Dayton Center Courts at 5 p.m.

Each week, OAC coaches and sports information directors nominate student-athletes for each sport in season for the award.
